Macleay Street, Potts Point It boasts a proud history as one of Sydney's original eat streets, and there's still some
fine food to be had. Just don't call it the Cross.

Odeon Diner

32 Orwell Street, 9331 0172

Yep, we're cheating, but Eat Streets: Orwell Lane would be a very limited affair. Besides, the vibe at this former
dance hall is quite unlike any other Sydney restaurant, so it's worth the detour. Slip into one of the booths (last time
we visited David Wenham was seated at one) and get stuck into the menu. Butter beans, Jerusalem artichokes, baby spinach
and grilled fennel made for a fine entree, enlivened as it was by a judicious dollop of aioli. The veal shank main differed
from the received interpretation in that the meat was browner than usual and it was teamed with superb soft polenta and the
babiest of carrots - all good things.

Open: dinner, seven days; breakfast and lunch, Sat-Sun.

Prices: entrees $9-$13; mains $18-$23.50.
