Vintage fashion falling by the Wayside for a cause

CHARITY PARADE

Vintage and op-shop apparel addicts will mingle on the catwalk tonight at this year's charity fashion parade for the Wayside Chapel.

In its ninth year, the parade will feature 36 clothing items that have been donated to the chapel in Kings Cross.

It will be followed by a celebrity fashion auction, showcasing a red feather boa donated by Cathy Freeman, a signed Moulin Rouge! T-shirt from Nicole Kidman, a pair of Steve Waugh's jeans, and a pair of shoes worn by David Wenham.

The parade's clothing range also features hand-made vintage designs from local Sydney freelance designer Jess Gordon. Gordon said her designs reflected the spring/summer vintage fashion trends of sequins with light colours, mixed with gold, black and hot pink.

``Vintage clothing is taking off in a big way after taking off on catwalks in Paris and Italy,'' she said.

The Wayside Chapel Fashion Parade will take place at Plan B, upstairs in the Bourbon bar in Kings Cross. Tickets for the event are $42 and include food supplied by Wagamama restaurant.

Funds raised will go towards the chapel's programs, which help young people, the homeless, elderly, victims of domestic violence and substance addictions.
