David Wenham with Sally Loane
David Wenham, famous for his role as "Diver Dan" on the ABC TV series, "Seachange" has become a father, both in real life and on screen.
This little known aspect of Wenham’s life came to light when he spoke with 702 Morning’s Sally Loane about his latest movie, "Three Dollars", based on the best-selling book by Elliott Pearlman.
"Three Dollars" looks at the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of family in dealing with life's hardships when a well educated family who are in supposedly safe jobs, find themselves through a series of unexpected incidents, in a financial crisis. They are down to their last three dollars!
Sally: You have a family now?
David: Yes, I have a daughter. She’s eighteen months and one day.
Sally: A lovely age?
David: Yes, except that I think the terrible twos are kicking in early.
In the movie, David Wenham also plays a father and Sally wondered if David’s own experience had influenced his ability to play the role?
David: It was very easy. There was no thinking or planning. And Fran who plays my wife and Joanna’s mother, we spent a little bit of time before we shot the film as a family unit. We visited the aquarium in Melbourne together. A bit of quality time.
Sally: That’s method acting?
David: It’s not really method acting, it’s just a bonding session which made it much easier to shoot scenes where the family came together.
