Pope Joan Updates
from Donna Woolfolk Cross
Movie News: An Important Week!
I just heard from Constantin that
Pope Joan
will be screened for U.S. movie
distributors starting this week. So keep your fingers
tight-crossed!
The “movie-goer” map and your
wonderful testimonials are now in the hands of the
producers. Thanks to all who participated.
More movie news:
if anyone saw the recent movie
Public Enemies,
you may have missed David Wenham in a very brief,
“throwaway” part (his role must have been greatly cut during
editing, for his name appears in the “above title” credits
at the beginning of the film).
Do not fear, Wenham
fans: David is “front and center” in the film version of
Pope Joan, where he plays Gerold, looking exactly like he
got up off the pages of my novel and walked onto the screen!
You’ll be very impressed by his performance, as was I. By
the way, he’s also an awfully nice guy, who went out of his
way to be gracious and attentive to me and to my daughter
when we were “on-set”.
More movie news:
the film The Baader
Meinhoff Complex (nominated for
both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award) will be released
in U.S. theaters this September. Unlike
Pope Joan,
which was filmed in English, The
Baader Meinhoff Complex is a foreign film, meaning
it’s in German with English subtitles. But
one of its stars is Johanna Wokalek,
the brilliant actress who plays Pope Joan.
So this is a good chance to see her and what she can do in a
very fine, critically-acclaimed film.
Thanks again
to all for your support of
Pope Joan. It heartens and
sustains me as I continue to do battle for this
inspirational woman!
