Three Dollars a good bet

ACTORS can be prickly things, particularly when they're together.

But there's no sign of egos among the cast of new great Australian hope, the film Three Dollars.

David Wenham, Sarah Wynter and Nicole Nabout were all smiles reuniting for the first time since the 2004 shoot with Frances
O'Connor (currently in London awaiting her first child).

"You get to a certain point where you realise what we do for a living is really extraordinarily fun," said Newcastle-raised,
US-residing Wynter.

Three Dollars, adapted from Elliot Perlman's prize-winning novel, tells of a man who loses his job when he only has three
dollars to his name.

All three actors know of such hard times, even if they're long passed.

"We've all done other jobs to support ourselves so that we can also act," Wynter said.

For Wenham, it was bingo calling. "Just call me BC," he said.

For both Nabout and Wynter, it was failed waiting jobs and "perfume sniping" at cosmetic counters.

Nabout said: "People are terrified of you."

Wynter said: "They yell out, 'I'm allergic!' Now doing that, you really develop humility."

Humility is now putting a local film in front of Australian audiences.
